Dollie's Candy Memory

When we were kids dad would bring a bag of candy home every week. It was usually Circus Peanuts. I think they were his favorite. He always told me it didn't matter how much candy I got just as long as I got the bag! Then as we got older we got to keep the change left over from our lunch money. It was a whole quarter! So every Monday we stop at the local drug store and buy penny candy. There were things like Tootsie Rolls, and many others I don't even remember the names of. Oh, and they weren't a penny each, they were more like 3 for a penny much larger than the Tootsie Rolls now. When we got to junior high we would walk down to another store in town called Mabel's. A group of us would walk there during lunch break and all buy a variety of candies. I remember getting the cinnamon toothpicks that came in the small waxed envelopes. We all loved those! Boy they could set your mouth on fire! There were also some favorites like the Wane Bun, giant Tootsie Rolls, Bottle Caps, Charms Sweet and Sour Pops among many other treats.
