The fall is upon us, Halloween is around the corner, and you have no idea what costume to wear this year. You sit and think about all of the spooky and not-so-spooky costumes you’ve sported over the course of your trick-or-treating career. That mummy costume from 4th grade was a pretty big hit, but so was the astronaut suit that you rocked for the 8th-grade class Halloween party. But nobody will ever forget when you dressed up as Elvis and did the twist at every front door in the neighborhood.

These costumes paint a nostalgic picture of your Halloween adventures. Years marked by a cast of characters that you played for the people on your street. That’s why this year we took it upon ourselves to find 5 of the most iconic candy character costumes you can replicate this Halloween.

  1. Violet Beauregarde & the Everlasting Gobstopper: Known as the snobby, gum-chewing pre-teen who blew herself up into a blueberry, Violet challenged Willy Wonka over the Everlasting Gobstopper. With Willy Wonka being such a landmark candy film, it was only time before Halloween goers started to roll around dressed in all blue.  From its premiere in 1971 to today, her blueberry body has been a marker for creative DIY costumes.

  2. ET & Reese’s Pieces: When a young boy befriended an alien creature, none of us thought they would bond over a bag of Reese’s Pieces—but as well all know, candy brings people together. The story of ET and Elliot showed the amazing things candy can do, and since its release in 1982, people have always wanted to dress as the boy flying on the bike with his friend. Phone home, and give this costume a try with your friend, family member, or a furry companion.

  3. Sloth, Chunk & Baby Ruth: We are keeping the candy friendships going with yet another classic from the ’80s. If you remember the Truffle Shuffle, then you definitely remember the tumultuous trio of Sloth, Chunk, and a Baby Ruth bar. A reputable duo of its time, Sloth and Chunk is a great team costume, as long as you are the one getting the Baby Ruth’s in your bag. Don’t forget with this costume to swap  “trick-or-treat” for “hey you guys!!!”

  4. Forrest Gump & Box of Chocolates: When you think about iconic movie candy moments, what comes to mind? For us, we cannot forget Forrest Gump’s proverb from his momma, “life is like a Box of Chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” From the beginning, Forrest Gump has been one of the most replicated costumes every Halloween. It’s simple. Slip-on your Nike Cortez’s and plaid shirt, grab a box of chocolates and red hat, and just keep running.

  5. ELF  & Candy Corn: When your four main food groups are candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup, it's no surprise that Elf tops off our list with his love for Candy Corn. Since 2004, people have been dressing up in green tights and conical hats and using it as an excuse to eat spaghetti covered in all sorts of candy confections. This costume takes it to the next level by combining two holidays into one—just promise us you won’t eat any gum off the subway handrails.

There you have it, 5 of the best candy costumes you could dress up as this year. Don’t settle for an average costume, take it to the next level and complement it with your favorite candy. Whether you’re rolling through your neighborhood as a blueberry or doing the twist from door to door, don't forget what Halloween is all about: the candy.

As part of our Halloween celebration, we are giving away a 4lb decade gift box randomly to you guys. How do you get it? It's simple: follow Old Time Candy on Facebook or Instagram, like and comment on our Costume post to one of your friends, and tell us about one of your favorite Halloween costumes. Let’s get spooky!
