When I was young, I always loved Zagnut bars. I had not had one in many years and then I saw them when I stopped for gas when I was traveling. Now, I always look for them when I'm on the road - can't find them in local stores anymore. About 10 years ago, I was dating a very thoughtful guy. One day I received a package at my office. He sent me a whole case of Zagnut bars! Quite a delicious surprise!! Bonnie from Tennessee
A newly unwrapped Zagnut bar is the closest I'll ever get to a time machine. Tear open the package and the first bite of roasted coconut and peanuts sends me. A childhood of Friday trips to the corner pharmacy to get a Zagnut bar, comic book and a bottle of Nehi. Sitting down in the shade of my favorite maple, reading until twilight, wiping my sticky fingers on fallen leaves. When Zagnuts disappeared from checkout lanes I was unfazed at the time and my memory of it faded with time. When I received a gift box from Old Time Candy as a present and saw the similar red-orange wrapper of my youth, a big goofy grin was plastered on my face. A lot of things change but Candy is eternal. When i was about 6-8 years old, in the early 60's my brother who was two years older than myself always seemed to get childhood illnesses together and often when we would my dad would go to the local convenient store and pick up us a snack for after dinner when we were confined to our room, and so very often although we would ask for something different, he would always seem to come home with a Zagnut bar, but in the end they created some wonderful memories as we would unwrap them and look at the design created by the chocolate as it got hard on the top of the bar, and our young imaginations often went all over the world from our little sick beds, and I would not trade those memories or those Zagnut bars for anything..Thanks dad...for the bars and the memories. Zagnut was my favorite many, many years ago and still is. Love the taffy and the squirrel nuts too. Old time candy is the best.
