Candy Memories

I was 10 years old in 1956 and I remember being addicted to whoppers. I used to help my Dad count his money and one day he had a lot (maybe 30) of one dollar bills. When he wasn't looking, I stole $1.00. The first thing I did was go to the store and buy as many whoppers as I could get for my (stolen) dollar.
Later that night Dad told me that he had (lost) one of his dollars and because of that....he couldn't pay the electric bill that week. I started crying and told him what I did. Naturally he forgave me... and also taught me a valuable lesson. If I wanted whoppers... I had to work for them. THAT'S when I started to clean the house and make my own money. Almost ALL of it went for whoppers. I still love whoppers and now I buy them by the box. Michele from Pennsylvania
I remember growing up in my hometown in Ohio. At our local mall we had a Woolworth's right across from the movie theater. My mom would take us over to get our candy, as it was much cheaper there. I always got the small Reese cups that came in a box and had 2 or 3 layers..And a box of whoppers!! It brings back so many good memories. Tracy from Oregon
My favorite memory is going over to spend the night at my grandparents house, which I could not wait for and grandma getting out the carton of Whoppers . We would get to stay up and watch movies, especially old black and white movies. Grandma would also make fudge too. I miss those times and all the goodies she would give us, as only a grandma would . And then taking us to get penny candy and ice cream. Miss those days. Teresa from Kansas
