Salted Nut Rolls History

Salted Nut Rolls are a popular candy bar known for their combination of sweet nougat, peanuts, and a salty coating. Here's a brief history of Salted Nut Rolls:

Salted Nut Rolls were first introduced in 1933 by the Pearson's Candy Company, a confectionery manufacturer based in Minnesota, USA. The candy was created by the company's founder, P. Edward Pearson.

The inspiration for Salted Nut Rolls came from the desire to create a candy that combined contrasting flavors and textures. The candy features a center made of a chewy, nougat-like filling that is generously studded with roasted peanuts. This nougat and peanut core is then coated in a layer of caramel and rolled in a salty coating, often made of crushed peanuts or coarse salt.

The combination of sweet, salty, and nutty flavors in Salted Nut Rolls quickly gained popularity. The balance between the chewy nougat, the crunchy peanuts, and the saltiness provided a unique and satisfying taste experience.

Over the years, Salted Nut Rolls became one of Pearson's Candy Company's signature products. They gained a dedicated following and were often found in vending machines, convenience stores, and candy aisles across the United States.

In 2011, the Pearson's Candy Company faced financial difficulties and was acquired by the iconic candy brand, Great Lakes Candy Company. Despite the change in ownership, Salted Nut Rolls continued to be produced and enjoyed by candy enthusiasts.

Today, Salted Nut Rolls remain a beloved candy bar and are recognized for their distinctive packaging—a bright red wrapper with the product's name prominently displayed. They are often enjoyed as a tasty snack, providing a satisfying combination of sweetness, nuttiness, and a hint of salt.

Salted Nut Rolls have stood the test of time and continue to be cherished by fans who appreciate their unique flavor profile and satisfying texture.

Salted Nut Rolls Memories

My family arrived to the small (cold and snowy) town of Council Bluffs, Iowa in late December, 1979 as refugees from Laos. Our sponsors rented a 4-story mansion for our family of six, just down the alley from a drug store. We didn't know what to expect from our life in America, but I recall very vividly, running to the drug store to get the sweet and salty, soft and crunchy taste of Salted Nut Rolls.

I remember saving up my coins from what I found laying in the streets, to buy a Nut Roll for myself and my three sisters. Sometimes the store clerks would give me some for free, just to see the excitement in our eyes. I couldn't remember the name of that candy bar, until I finally found this site today. Thanks for bringing back the memories! ~ Katy from California
