Razzles History

Razzles candy is a unique confectionery that combines the elements of both candy and chewing gum. Here's a brief history of Razzles:

Razzles candy was first introduced by the Concord Confections company in 1966. It was initially marketed as a "candy that changes into gum." This innovative concept intrigued consumers, as it offered a dual experience in a single product.

The name "Razzles" is a combination of the words "razzle" (meaning to confuse or puzzle) and "dazzle" (to impress or astonish). The name was chosen to capture the surprise and delight that came with the candy's transformation from candy to gum.

Razzles candy starts as a small, hard candy tablet with a fruity flavor. As it is chewed, it gradually softens and takes on the texture of gum. This unique characteristic made Razzles stand out from other candies on the market.

When Razzles were first introduced, they came in four flavors: raspberry, grape, orange, and lemon. The colorful and tangy flavors appealed to consumers, particularly children who enjoyed the novelty of the candy-to-gum transformation.

Over the years, Concord Confections expanded the Razzles product line to include additional flavors such as tropical punch, sour apple, and blue raspberry. The variety of flavors provided options for different taste preferences and added to the appeal of Razzles.

Razzles gained significant popularity and became a nostalgic candy cherished by many. The candy was featured in numerous commercials and advertising campaigns that emphasized the surprise and fun aspect of the candy turning into gum.

Throughout its history, Razzles has changed ownership multiple times. It was acquired by The Hershey Company in 2004 and later by the Tootsie Roll Industries in 2008. Tootsie Roll Industries continues to produce and distribute Razzles today.

Razzles candy has become a beloved treat, enjoyed by people of all ages. Its combination of fruity candy and gum offers a unique and playful chewing experience. Whether as a nostalgic favorite or a new discovery, Razzles continue to dazzle candy enthusiasts with their candy-to-gum transformation and fruity flavors.

Razzles Memories

Back in the seventies, I loved nothing more than spending the weekend with my grandparents, Granddaddy and Mama Jo. There was a dime store around the corner - one of those little stores usually ran as a "Mom and Pop" outfit. If I was a "good girl" (which was funny, because I could do no wrong in my grandparent's eyes), Mama Jo would take me to the store and let me pick out one special thing. I always made a bee-line for the Razzles because the store where I lived didn't carry them.

I can remember how the first one always tasted - I'd pick out an orange one, pop it in my mouth, and chew. My mouth would water and I would have to fight the urge to swallow the candy until it changed textures and formed a lump of gum. I always chewed two pieces at a time, relishing every piece, folding the package and putting it into my back pocket to keep it safe. To me, Razzles are a piece of my childhood. ~ Kelly from Tennessee
