French Burnt Peanuts History

French Burnt Peanuts are a type of candy that consists of roasted peanuts covered in a crunchy, candy shell that has been given a burnt or caramelized flavor. The exact origins of French Burnt Peanuts are unclear, but they are believed to have been first produced in the United States in the early 20th century.

One theory is that French Burnt Peanuts were created by accident when a candy maker accidentally burned a batch of sugar syrup that was intended for another candy. Rather than waste the burnt syrup, the candy maker decided to coat some roasted peanuts with it, creating the French Burnt Peanut candy.

Another theory is that French Burnt Peanuts were inspired by a traditional French confection called "dragées," which are sugar-coated almonds. It is believed that American candy makers adapted this concept by using peanuts instead of almonds and adding a burnt flavor to the candy shell.

Regardless of their origins, French Burnt Peanuts became a popular candy in the United States in the mid-20th century and remain a nostalgic favorite for many people today. They are still produced by several candy companies and can be found in many grocery stores and candy shops.

French Burnt Peanuts Memories

I have a flash back every time I eat a burnt peanut. Who ever is around me gets to hear my story no matter how many times they have heard it already. My family would some times take my brothers and me to a small amusement park. All the rides were just for kids except one, it was a train that goes around the whole park.

Every time we would ride it dad would get a little bag of Burnt Peanuts, he would sit with me and we would share them. I loved how they would feel in my mouth! I would move them around feeling the bumps with my tongue until all of the candy shell had melted away and then I would crunch up the peanut. I still love them and they will always be apart of a great childhood memories! ~ Leah from Texas
