Coconut Bars History

Neapolitan coconut candy bars are a type of candy that feature three layers of flavored coconut filling, usually in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. The candy is named after the Neapolitan ice cream flavor, which features the same three flavors in ice cream form.

The exact origin of Neapolitan coconut candy bars is not clear, but they are believed to have been introduced in the mid-20th century, when candy makers were experimenting with new flavors and textures for their products. The combination of coconut and chocolate was already a popular one, and the addition of vanilla and strawberry flavors helped to create a candy that was both visually appealing and delicious.

Neapolitan coconut candy bars were particularly popular in the 1960s and 1970s, when they were often sold in bulk at candy stores and served at parties and social events. The candy bars were often wrapped in colorful foil or paper, which helped to enhance their visual appeal.

Today, Neapolitan coconut candy bars are less widely available than they once were, but they remain a beloved treat for many people. Some candy makers have updated the recipe for modern tastes, incorporating different flavors or textures to appeal to a wider audience. Nevertheless, the classic combination of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry-flavored coconut remains a favorite of many candy lovers.

Coconut Bars Memories

When I was a little girl in Virginia one of my fondest memories was going to my aunts house. If we were good and had finished all of our chores we got to stop by the little country store for candy.

We could get a whole lunch sack for 10 cents my favorite was the coconut slices, where my brother and sister would fill there bag with different kinds of candy mine would be full of nothing but coconut slices.

It has been years since I've had these wonderful treats and I was so glad when I found them on your site. Thank you for the wonderful memories that your site brought back, you really made my day. ~ Carol from Florida
