Candy Memories

I loved the little tootsie rolls and would get them every chance I could. Of course back then you could go to the store and get them for a penny. If I was lucky sometimes I would find them in my dad's pockets when he would come home from driving the bus. I ate so many of them my nickname was Tootie. I still like the little ones best. Peggy from California
My Mom was 'The Penny Candy Lady' for many years. We would bag up Tootsie Rolls at the local Flea Market and one day a customer came to us to bring a silver ring that she found in her bag. Moms ring had fallen in the bag without her knowing it while bagging it up. One Halloween Mom dressed as a Tootsie Roll and handed out Tootsie Rolls. Eventually Mom was paying 2 cents a piece for the Tootsies and still selling them for a penny. Her response was,"I'm the Penny Candy Lady, not the 2 penny candy lady. Brenda from Pennsylvania
I used to go fishin' with my papaw Whitt and he would stop and get a big bag of Tootsie Rolls to take with us. One was for my fishing line because I didn't like worms and the rest were to nibble on as we talked. I would catch a fish or two on my hook with the sweet treat. It was a grand memory and I still love my midget tootsie rolls in the summer. They don't melt like chocolate but have the yummy chocolate taste. Rebecca from Ohio
