Squirrel Nut Zippers are chewy peanut caramels with emphasis on the "chewy." Make sure those baby-boomer teeth are in good shape. Some of you will remember these as Squirrel Nut Chews. They are the same candy but with a different name. The plastic, reusable tub measures over 7 inches high, 8 inches wide and 5 inches deep. The mouth is 4.5 inches in diameter. The container is a Saf-T-Fresh plastic tub which is resealable and recyclable. The glass candy jar is 4.5 inches wide by 6.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches deep with a 3 inch opening. Bulk candy counts are approximated.

Candy Memories

I have searched high and low for Squirrel Nut Zippers. And have finally found them in your on-line store. Many years ago, when I became old enough to pick out my own penny candy, I would always go to the glass candy case and look inside to see what there was to buy. (I would usually have five to 10 cents to spend). I can remember waiting very impatiently for my turn to come so the clerk would wait on me. I remember the wonderful taste of peanuts and I think it was molasses. As I grew older and was allowed to walk to the store, I would get my squirrel nut zippers in a little brown paper bag and eat my candy on my way back home. It would stick to the roof of my mouth and my teeth and I would have to pry it loose with my finger. But loved every minute of it. ~ Brenda from Maryland
As a child we didn't have much. I remember waiting for my Grandfather to come up the block.. because I knew he would bring a little brown bag with treats for all 5 of us kids. He would have squirrel nut candy, Mary Janes and candy lipsticks. Just seeing a squirrel nut zipper brings back all those loving memories. Maria from New York
I would sit on the steps with my Dad on warm summer nights. He would send me to the corner store to get us both a soft drink. He would have me buy him a coke and two Hershey bars. He would let me spend five cents on candy for myself. It was a big decision between penny candy and a candy bar. If I chose penny candy I would get 2 mint juleps for a penny, some squirrel nuts and Mary Jane's. If I chose a candy bar it would be the Hersey bar without nuts because it looked bigger than all the others. Candy bars were five cents when I was a child. Choosing between one candy bar or 7 pieces of penny candy was a big dilemma for me. Florina from Maine
