I remember as a child visiting the doctor's office and there being a bowl of Dum Dum Pops for kids in the waiting room. I was not a fan of lollipops in general, but the Dum Dums were so flavorful, and they were the perfect size for a child. I thought they seemed like an old-fashioned candy, with their subdued packaging and overall simplicity. The assortment of flavors was quite varied, and included many I had not seen before in a lollipop. My favorite by far was the cream soda. Pina colada, root beer, butterscotch, and orange round out my top 5!!!

These little lollipops will always remind me of trick or treat... it's the only time I'd get them, probably because they came in a big bag and could be doled out individually and every trick or treater could get some. I never came across them in the local candy store! I was intrigued by the Root Beer flavor, and I liked the small size because that meant you could try a few of them in a short time.

Every year for Halloween, my grandma used to insist on buying a bag of Dum Dum suckers for the babies that came by for their first Halloween. We thought it was dumb at first... most babies, the parents are just going to eat the candy anyways, so why bother? But seeing how happy grandma always was to dole out the suckers made us keep buying them. She passed away recently. It was unexpected, and we're still floundering, trying to come to grips with it. While picking up candy here and there for Halloween, the first thing we grabbed was a bag of Dum Dums. Remembering the huge smile she always had, it doesn't seem so dumb now.
