Candy Memories

My grandpa always wore flannel shirts and carried bubble gum and moth balls in the pocket of his shirts for the neighborhood kids. When asked what they wanted, they always chose the bubble gum since it was wrapped. The moth balls (even tho they were delicious) always had flannel fuzz stuck to them and nobody wanted that. He was known as "Grandpa Bubble Gum" and that's what all the kids called him. This is a very happy memory from my childhood. Donna from Arizona
The best part of playing softball during mididle school was the bag of Double Bubble gum that my mom, the coach, let us buy on the way to practice and to games. My favorite was the tart and tangy green apple, but grape was a close second. We filled up a little brown sack of the stuff for less than a $1 -- and chewed and chewed and chewed for the entire game. You just didn't want to get caught blowing a bubble during game time or you'd have to run the bases during the next practice. Coach Mom would only put up with so much foolishness when we were supposed to be paying attention to the game action. But when you play left field and seldom see anything out your way, it was easy to forget and start blowing bubbles. Pam from South Carolina
There are so many I could probably list, but I had to laugh when I saw your image on the contest. When I was 5 and 6 years old, I lived in Colorado. Our doctor used to give out Dubble Bubble gum at the end of your appointment as a reward. I think he had an "in" with the dentist, because it was always hard as a rock, and I think I lost at least four teeth trying to chew that gum! Diane from Texas
