Orange Slices History

Orange Slices are a popular candy known for their chewy texture and tangy orange flavor. Let's explore the history behind these delightful treats.

The exact origin of Orange Slices is not well-documented, but similar citrus jelly candies have been enjoyed for many years. It is believed that Orange Slices emerged as a variation of other fruit slice candies, which were traditionally made by coating slices of real fruit in sugar and allowing them to dry. However, Orange Slices are typically made with artificial flavoring and coloring to mimic the taste and appearance of oranges.

The process of making Orange Slices involves creating a gel-like mixture using orange flavoring, sugar, and other ingredients. The mixture is then poured into molds to create the distinct slice shape and allowed to set. Afterward, the candy is coated in sugar to give it a sweet and slightly crunchy exterior.

Orange Slices gained popularity as a convenient and long-lasting treat. Their chewy texture and citrus flavor made them a favorite among candy lovers, especially those who enjoyed the taste of oranges.

Today, Orange Slices are widely available and produced by various candy manufacturers. They are commonly found in bulk bins, candy aisles, and packaged in bags or boxes. The candy's vibrant orange color and distinctive slice shape make it easily recognizable.

Orange Slices have become a staple in the confectionery industry and are enjoyed by people of all ages. They are often included in candy assortments, used as party favors, or enjoyed as a standalone snack. Some people even use them as toppings for cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts.

The timeless appeal of Orange Slices lies in their tangy and refreshing orange flavor, combined with their chewy and satisfying texture. Whether enjoyed on their own or used creatively in recipes, Orange Slices continue to be a popular choice for those seeking a fruity and enjoyable candy experience.

Orange Slices Memories

Back in the early 70's, as a youngster, my parents and our family would help an elderly gentleman take care of his large yard as well as help him meet other needs. He was a retired doctor and a horticulturist. He hybridized day lilies. He was in his 80's and had a hard time keeping up his yard.

In the area where he potted plants was a candy jar always full of orange slice candy. It was a real treat after having mowed, or weeded or whatever we helped with to have an orange slice candy. My dad and my brother and I just loved them.

It's an awesome memory that brings back to mind the wonderful generosity and great sense of humor this great man had. Doc Switzer, you were a great friend! ~ Larry from North Carolina
