Jujyfruits candy, known for its chewy texture and assortment of fruit flavors, has a history that dates back to the early 20th century. The candy has become a beloved treat, offering a burst of fruity sweetness to candy enthusiasts.
Jujyfruits candy was first introduced in 1920 by the Heide Candy Company, founded by Henry Heide in the United States. The company, known for its innovative confectionery creations, sought to expand its product line beyond their popular Jujubes candy.
The name "Jujyfruits" is a playful combination of the words "juicy" and "fruits," highlighting the candy's fruity nature and enticing flavors.
The original Jujyfruits candy featured a variety of fruit-shaped and fruit-flavored chewy candies. The candies were molded into shapes such as bananas, cherries, oranges, lemons, and strawberries, adding a touch of whimsy and visual appeal to the candy experience.
Jujyfruits quickly gained popularity, becoming a favorite among candy lovers of all ages. Their chewy texture and vibrant fruit flavors made them a delightful and satisfying treat.
Over the years, Jujyfruits underwent various changes and developments to keep up with evolving consumer preferences. The candy's formula was refined to enhance its chewiness and improve flavor profiles, ensuring a consistent and enjoyable experience.
In 1994, the Ferrara Candy Company acquired the Heide Candy Company, including the Jujyfruits brand. The Ferrara Candy Company continued the production of Jujyfruits, maintaining the candy's iconic characteristics while introducing it to a wider audience.
Today, Jujyfruits remain a popular choice for candy lovers around the world. The candy is typically sold in brightly colored boxes or bags, each containing a mix of fruit-shaped and fruit-flavored pieces. The flavors include cherry, lemon, lime, orange, and raspberry, providing a delightful assortment of fruity tastes.
Jujyfruits' enduring appeal lies in their chewy texture, playful shapes, and vibrant flavors. They offer a nostalgic candy experience, evoking memories of childhood and simpler times. Whether enjoyed at the movies, during road trips, or as a sweet indulgence, Jujyfruits candies continue to bring joy to those who savor their fruity sweetness.
I had no idea these candies have been made so long, but my memory takes place growing up in the 90's. My crazy cousin liked the tooth fairy so much he would try to lose teeth even before they started to wiggle. He would sit and chew Jujyfruits all of the time until they did the job. He probably wanted the tooth fairy money to buy more candy. I can't look at a box without laughing about him trying to loosen his teeth, although it was a little gross.
Even before we could read or lose teeth, I still remember being able to recognize the big yellow box. It seemed endless as we would keep picking out the different colored fruits. Of course, the green ones were always the best. ~ Vanessa from Illinois
