Dubble Bubble Gum History

Created in 1928 by Fleer Candy Company accountant Walter Diemer (he claims he stumbled upon the recipe by accident), the gum featured comic strip featuring brothers Dub and Bub (replaced in 1950 by Pud). It grew in popularity, and was even distributed as part of military rations during World War II. It also was part of the first-ever gum five-pack (1957). Below is a magazine ad from 1954.

Dubble Bubble Gum Memories

Dubble Bubble Gum ad I was about 6 or 7 years old and my older sister and I were riding in our Grandfather's car on the way home from the store. He had bought us some Double Bubble Gum and as we were going home he said if we both give him a piece of our gum he would blow the "world's LARGEST bubble"!! So he chewed for a few minutes and then he proceeded to blow the biggest bubble I had seen in my life!!! Of course the best part was when it POPPED all over his face!! Now mind you- he's driving a car!!! I don't think to this day I have ever laughed harder!! ~ Becky from California
