Candy Memories

Growing up in central Illinois in the late 1970's and early 1980's, I remember frequent trips with my brothers to the community swimming pool. Just outside the swimming pool, there was a small pavilion that contained several vending machines. I remember my older brother and me each buying a small package of Andy Capp's Hot Fries. My older brother would always challenge me to a "test of manhood." Whoever could eat the most Hot Fries without coughing, gasping, or clearing their throat was crowned the bigger, most "grown-up" man..... My brother usually won. Jon from Illinois
I remember being around 8 years old or so. It was around 1990 and there was a small penny candy store not far from my house. Me and my friend would walk there sometimes if our parents had a dollar to spare and we would go in and pick out 100 pieces of penny candy! Decisions, decisions, decisions! It took what seemed like forever to figure out if you wanted 5 of the assorted color swedish fish and 5 of the red or maybe you'd rather save 5 cents and get more sour patch kids! We could be in that store for what felt like hours. Sometimes we'd even be daring if our parents gave us more than a dollar and got a .25 bag of Andy Capp's Hot Fries for Monday Night Raw (WWF)! Those were the best days of my life and memories I'll always have even if only over something as simple and cheap as a piece of penny candy Sarah from Massachusetts

Hot Fries

I would buy these chips at school. They bring back memories of people who couldn't eat them because they were too spicy and those who could eat them, like me.
