"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here.My sister and I are 15 years apart. When I was 5 years old, I finally had a chance to go trick or treating for the first time ever, the event was held inside my school. Growing up I wasn't allowed any candy, somehow my parents allowed me this one time to keep my small bag of candy. When I arrived home only one thing out of the dozen treats caught my eye.
Out of the bag was a paper sleeve and inside it was this beautiful watermelon slice candy, it had a green outer peel and red middle and a thin white line to divide the colors and it was covered with what appeared to be sugar, I never knew, because before I had a chance to bring the candy to my mouth my sister who was able to go out on her own and purchase her own candy snatched it out of my hand and she gave me a hug and kiss as she ate my candy, my only watermelon slice. I had tootsie rolls, I had a couple suckers, I had smarties.. but No, she wanted the only thing I wanted.
Twenty years have passed and occasionally I bring this story up every family gathering because I never seen anything like that candy anywhere, I never knew what it tasted like either. When I became a teen, I went to local stores and I always had that candy in mind. I couldn't find it in any grocery or party store. Years passed by and I gave up looking, I just figured they stopped making them.
Just last night, one of my nieces, tired of hearing me belly ache about my older siblings stealing my candy when it was very rare in my childhood, she emailed me this link to your website. I think these are the ones I have been looking for, they look like them, it has been over two decades since I briefly seen one. It's a surprise to still find them being sold. Thank you for having these available so people like me could have a second chance to relive the old times. Thank You! ~ Jetta from Michigan
