Valomilk

History

The history of VALOMILK started in 1903 when Samuel Sifers started making hard candies and hand-rolled boxed chocolates in Lola, Kansas. Then in 1916, the family moved to Kansas City for better opportunities.

In those days they made penny marshmallow with genuine vanilla which consisted of hefty alcohol content. Candy makers were know to take a few snorts every now and then.

One day an employee had a few extra sips of vanilla while making marshmallows and spoiled the batch. Second generation owner, Mr. Harry Sifers, was always looking for new ideas for candy so he dipped scoops of the runny marshmallow into chocolate cups. It was messy but so delicious – a simple taste of heaven!

The company began making the new candy, calling it VALOMILK DIPS and selling them for 5 cents in 1931. So the Original Sifers VALOMILK Candy Cup was invented quite by accident.

The name VALOMILK DIP came from: V for real vanilla, ALO from marshmallow, MILK to describe it as creamy and DIP because it was hand dipped (hand made). The name for “The Original Flowing Center Candy Cup” was later shortened to VALOMILK.

Valomilk Memories

Valomilk boxI remember when I was 6 or 7 years old (I am now 48) my brother would bring Valomilks home and he would sometimes share one with me if I didn't pester him too much that day. Back then they had little cardboard circles in each package and if you got enough of them they would send you 10 Valomilks for free! A virtual goldmine for a young kid!!

I remember one day my Mom telling my Brother that he got something in the mail and when he saw the cardboard mailing tube a smile came across his face. The free Valomilks had arrived! All of the collecting had finally paid off!! I smile when I see a Valomilk to this day!! ~ Phillip from Indiana
