Heath Bar History

Heath candy bars were first introduced in 1914 by the Heath Company, which was founded by L.S. Heath in Robinson, Illinois. The original candy bar consisted of a thin layer of toffee coated in milk chocolate.

Heath candy bars quickly became popular in the United States, and the company began producing other types of candy, including mints and caramels. In the 1930s, the company introduced a new version of the Heath bar, which featured almonds mixed in with the toffee.

Over the years, the Heath Company changed hands several times, and in 1989 it was acquired by the Leaf Candy Company. Leaf later merged with Hershey's, and today the Heath bar is one of several candies in the Hershey's product line.

Despite changes in ownership and marketing, the recipe for the Heath bar has remained relatively unchanged over the years. The candy bar is still made with a layer of crunchy toffee that is coated in milk chocolate, and it continues to be a popular treat for people of all ages. In addition to the original Heath bar, Hershey's now produces a variety of other Heath products, including snack-sized bars, baking chips, and ice cream toppings.

Heath Bar Memories

Growing up in Robinson Illinois, I was fortunate to be able to eat Heath Toffee Bars at an early age. Having little money, it was a real treat for us to be able to get a candy bar, so we chose Heath.

My grandmother lived only two blocks from the Heath factory where they made dairy products and excelled at making ice cream. We would always eat the chocolate from the toffee and then eat the toffee.

Now, 50 some years later, I still eat Heath candy bars, and eat them the same way. While I was in the Marine Corps, I traveled around the world, and everywhere I went, I could find Heath candy bars. I have always been proud of my home town, and will never forget my favorite candy bar, Heath! ~ Jerry from Oklahoma
