Grapeheads History

Grapeheads are a type of candy known for their grape-flavored, hard, and tangy taste. Here's a brief history of Grapeheads candy:

Grapeheads are part of the "Heads" brand of candies, which is produced by the Ferrara Candy Company. Ferrara Candy Company is a leading confectionery manufacturer known for producing a variety of popular candies.

The exact date of Grapeheads' introduction to the market is not widely documented. However, Grapeheads gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s when the Ferrara Candy Company started marketing and distributing the Heads brand more extensively.

Grapeheads box

are known for their small, round shape and their vibrant purple color. They are made using a similar process as other hard candies, with sugar, corn syrup, and flavorings combined and then formed into small candy pellets.

The distinctive feature of Grapeheads is their tangy and tart grape flavor. The candy provides a burst of grape taste that is both sweet and sour, creating a unique sensory experience for candy lovers.

Grapeheads, along with other flavors of Heads candies like Lemonheads and Cherryheads, became popular among consumers who enjoyed the intense fruit flavors and the satisfying crunch of the hard candy shell.

The popularity of Grapeheads and the Heads brand led to the expansion of the product line to include other fruit flavors, such as Orangeheads, Appleheads, and Raspberryheads. This variety allowed consumers to enjoy a range of tangy and fruity taste experiences.

Today, Grapeheads continue to be produced by the Ferrara Candy Company and are widely available in candy stores, convenience stores, and online retailers. They are often enjoyed as a nostalgic treat or as part of candy assortments.

The history of Grapeheads candy reflects their place as a favorite among grape-flavored candy enthusiasts. Their tangy flavor, vibrant appearance, and association with the Heads brand have contributed to their enduring popularity among candy lovers of all ages.

Grapeheads Memories

As a kids, I remember this candy better known as Alexander the Grape. My brother and I would go to the local candy store and buy boxes of this candy and others (Red Hots, Lemonheads, Boston Baked Beans) and when we were done with the boxes, we would fold the flaps inside the box and blow inside the box making a funny sound.

My brother, a few friends and I would get a bunch of these boxes and make a small symphony. When one box would get wear out from either saliva or just being over used, we'd use our other empty boxes and keep going. We'd drive our parents up the wall! ~ Bill from Pennsylvania
