Crows Candy History

Black Crows is a brand of black licorice flavored chewy candy that has been around for over a century. The candy was first introduced in the early 1900s by the Heide Candy Company, which was founded in 1869 in Robinson, Illinois.

The original Black Crows candy was a simple, chewy black licorice flavored candy shaped like a crow. Over the years, the candy became very popular, and the Heide Candy Company expanded its product line to include other flavors and shapes of candy, such as Jujyfruits and Jujubes.

In the 1980s, the Heide Candy Company was acquired by Farley's & Sathers Candy Company, which continued to produce Black Crows and other Heide Candy products. In 2012, Farley's & Sathers merged with the Ferrara Pan Candy Company to form Ferrara Candy Company, which is the current owner of the Black Crows brand.

Today, Black Crows candies are still available for purchase, and they remain a popular choice for people who enjoy black licorice flavored candy. While the packaging and marketing of the candy have evolved over the years, the basic recipe and shape of the candy has remained largely unchanged since it was first introduced over a century ago.

Crows Candy Memories

Crows

When I was a little girl I was a Crows fanatic. My grandfather sold them behind the counter of his tavern. Every Sunday we would visit and I would be so anxious driving up, knowing I would get a free box.

Twenty some years later, when I got married, I found out my husband was a Crows fanatic too. Every time that we occasionally came upon them in a store we would grab them. When my grandfather, was ill, before he passed away, my husband and I visited him. And sure enough, behind the counter of the tavern were My Crows. He passed away and it was the only time my husband was able to meet him.

Thirty years later I am just blown away to find a web site that not only sells Crows, but let's me express what they meant to me in memories. And, yes, I remember the old box. Thank you! ~ Polly from Florida
