Beemans Gum has a history that dates back over a century. Here's an overview of its story:

Beemans Gum was first introduced in the late 19th century by Dr. Edward E. Beeman. Dr. Beeman was a physician from Ohio who believed in the therapeutic properties of chewing gum containing pepsin, a digestive enzyme. He created Beemans Gum as a flavorful and digestif gum.

Beemans Gum gained popularity for its unique flavor, which was primarily derived from the addition of pepsin, giving it a distinctive taste and a slightly minty flavor profile. The gum was marketed as a refreshing treat that also had digestive benefits.

In the early 20th century, Beemans Gum became a favorite among individuals who sought its refreshing and digestive qualities. It was particularly popular with pilots and aviators, as the minty flavor was thought to alleviate ear discomfort during flights.

Over the years, Beemans Gum changed hands multiple times. It was initially manufactured by the Beeman Chemical Company, but production was later taken over by various confectionery companies, including Warner-Lambert and Cadbury Adams.

At certain points in its history, Beemans Gum faced periods of discontinuation due to changing market preferences and ownership changes. However, due to its loyal fanbase and nostalgic appeal, efforts were made to revive the brand and bring back the classic chewing gum.

Today, Beemans Gum is still available, often as a part of nostalgic or retro candy collections. It continues to be enjoyed by individuals who appreciate its unique flavor and its connection to the history of chewing gum.

Beemans Gum holds a special place in the gum industry, known for its original formulation and distinctive minty flavor with hints of pepsin. It stands as a testament to the long-standing tradition and enjoyment of chewing gum over the years.

Beemans Gum Memories

Mom didn't allow gum chewing, in or outside the home, but kids being kids when we had extra coins whe would buy it anyway. I think the gum taste better maybe because we weren't suppose to have it.

Now when I can find it, I chew Beeman to keep me from smoking. But never in public, because mom was right people do look like they are chewing like cow, and I can stand the sound of gum poping and smacking. ~ Serita from PA
