U-No candy memories... I think I was the only kid in school that ate
U-NO bars. Unlike other candy bars, eating a U-NO was a special event.
After carefully unwrapping my U-NO bar, I would smooth out the foil
wrapper. I'm not sure why, but maybe to extend the experience of eating
a U-NO. Then with the candy bar still sitting on the dark brown
cardboard bottom, I would take a sharp knife and slice the bar like a
loaf of bread. Then as I slowly ate each thin slice, letting it melt in
my mouth, I would refold the wrapper into a tiny rectangle. Gary

U-No candy bars! Never had one but I know them well.
Back in the 1950's when my mother was pregnant with my younger brother
and 2 years later my sister, she CRAVED U-No bars. They were her
"pickles and ice cream". It wasn't pretty. Not being a main stream
candy bar at the time, my Dad would have to buy a box at a time for
her from the local general store that did not ordinarily stock them. I
honestly never remember being denied anything in the house as a child,
but a U-No! ~ Bill from Indiana
I came across U-No candy bars at the Fox Theater in
my home town. I was about 11 or 12 years old. The U-No was more than
an eating experience. I loved sitting the the dark theater, during the
Saturday Matinee, and carefully open the foil wrapping. I would hold
each bite in my mouth and savor the melting delight. After finishing
the U-No, I would wait until the intermission, and peel the thin paper
backing on the foil cover then put a coin under the foil and rub my
finger over the foil and coin. It made an exact replica of the coin. ~

The first U-no candy bar I ever tried was bought at our local Drug Store Soda Shop. My younger brother
who is now (62) (I am 67) and I would save our pennies and run to buy one. At the time U-no bars sold for 10 cents. U-no bars were special
then and still more special today as they are very hard to find. I certainly hope this candy bar the "U-no", stays around for a long, long
time. ~ Doris from New York
