Sugar Babies history

Ad from 1976The Sugar Baby is a 1935 spin-off from the success of the Sugar Daddy made by the Welch Company. In the 1930s, Sugar Babies were young women on whom middle-aged "Sugar Daddies" spent bundles of money.

Here is a magazine ad from 1976 which includes the Sugar Daddy  (1925) and Sugar Mama (1965). Sugar Daddy is still available but the Sugar Mamas (chocolate covered Sugar Daddies) were discontinued in the 80s. Today the Sugar Baby is made by the Charms Company.

Sugar Babies memories... When I was a kid, my brother and I went to church every Sunday with our mother. We were Southern Baptists, and the services tended to be quite long, so Mom always gave us treats in order to curb our restless behavior. Well, being normal children, we often found ways in which to amuse each other during the sermon.

One day, my brother inserted sugar babies on each of his upper teeth without me knowing. When I looked over at him, he flashed this huge, brown grin, and, well, suffice it to say I became hysterical, laughing so uncontrollably that my mother had to remove us from church. What fun!~ Janet from Florida

More memories... One day me and family went to Wisconsin Dells ,and down in the dells they have a candy store with all the old time candy. So we were all walking around the store looking and showing each other the different candies that we remembered.

So all of a sudden me and my brother look at the same time and saw the sugar babies and they were like on the opposite end of the store, he ran down one aisle and I ran down another, we got there at the same time and collided like something out of a cartoon.

Could you imagine a 300lbs person crashing into someone just half of what he weighs. We had the hold store in tears laughing. ~ Yolanda - from Chicago
