Stick Candy memories... When
I was younger, every Christmas I looked forward to going to
Grandma's house to find my hidden peppermint stick. My Great Grandma
used to hide peppermint sticks for my Grandma, and she passed the
tradition on down to me. The smell of peppermint holds a dear place
in my heart and will forever be a symbol of the love that is shared
each Christmas in something as little as a peppermint stick! ~ Ashley from South Dakota
A LONG time ago, when Sunday morning church service was done, a bunch of us kids would run across the street to this old
"general store". I am not sure what else they had in that store, but I do remember that it always had candy. LOTS of candy. We would all
crowd along the counter and pick out which treats we wanted to buy and sneak into Sunday School.
I always loved to pick 2 different kinds of candy sticks. My favorites were definitely the cinnamon
and the strawberry. I also remembered that if I chose a flavor I didn't like (like lemon) I would try to trade with someone else. No
takers ever! Can't say I blame them. Ah... those were the good 'ol days! (They only cost a nickel then!) ~ Brenda from New York
When I was a little girl I used to go visit my grandparents every Sunday after church. I loved to go and sit and visit
with them but my favorite part of my visit was always Strawberry Sticks. My grandfather was a quiet man but whenever I would come to see
him he would always have a special treat for me. He had a sweater he would always wear and he would always have a Strawberry Stick in the
pocket waiting for me.
Now that I am older and my grandfather has passed away, I miss that special time with him. I wanted
to honor his memory in a unique way at my wedding this year so I am using his favorite candy, Strawberry Sticks, as my wedding favors. I
hope that my family and my new in-laws can appreciate the gesture and share my grandfather's memory with me on my most important day. ~
