"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here.As a kid there was little fishing pond up the street. People would pay the owner to fish there (he stocked the pond with trout). He kept a little shack near the pond where anyone could buy soda ("tonic" as it is called here) and penny candy. On Saturday I would get my 25 cent allowance and walk up the street to buy my share of penny candy. I would get a small brown paper bag filled with candy, but always splurged the most on Squirrels.
I remember fondly, fighting to get the paper all undone off the Squirrels and if the paper did not all come off, well then you ate a little paper too! They were lovely... all chewy and sweet with nuts. Every time I see and eat them now I can recall a simpler time of sunny days outdoors playing, sticky candy wrappers, good books, and all "the good stuff" that seems to missing from our world now. ~ Lynne from Mass.
