 Runts candy memories... When I
was a child, in Wisconsin. I used to stay up late and eat nothing but
runts . Anytime that the snow in Madison was too deep to go to school
I would just sit at home and eat runts, my favorite kind was the
banana flavor.
One time, near Christmas my
mother and father asked me what I wanted for Christmas. So I
responded, Runts, mamma I only want are runts for Christmas. SO guess
what they did they got me 35 bags of runts and told me that's all I
get because that's what I asked for. Well I found out it was just one
major joke and it wound up being the best Christmas ever... I got a
bike. ~ Joe from Pennsylvania
During my youth I used to frequent a comic book store in York, Pennsylvania, that has long since
closed. Twice a month I was able to cajole my mother into driving me there (it was a good 15 minutes away). I would scour the sections for
what seemed like hours before finally deciding on the titles I wanted.
Every time I left the store there would be a 25 cent candy vending machine filled with Runts. I would
always put my quarter in, turn the knob *very* slowly (to try and maximize my "Runt" return, heh, heh) and enjoy 'em with my mother in the
car ride home while perusing my latest comic purchases. Good times. ~ Glenn from Pennsylvania
I remember growing up in the
late eighties/early nineties, Runts were simply a way of life for
kids. You bought them from the turn-style vending machines, at the
movie theatre in boxes, and at the by-the-pound store in the mall,
if you were especially fortunate!
My friends and I liked to
combine our change and then split up the runts by our favorite
fruits/flavors. Mine was always Strawberry, and I disliked Bananas,
while my best friend loved the Bananas and hated the cherries. So we
found a third friend who wanted those and wala! Our Runt purchases
easily doubled haha!
I love the candy and still
buy it today, for memories, but also because it's delicious. I love
the new flavors (watermelon, blue raspberry, haven't had the pear
yet) but Strawberry is still my favorite! ~ Lorie from Florida
