The "Oh Henry" name
has nothing to do with Hamerin' Hank the baseball player or O. Henry the
author. This Henry was the name of a young man who used to come to the Williamson
Candy Store in Chicago where chocolate was being made and sold.
Henry would kid around with
the young ladies who made the candy. After awhile, they began asking Henry to
do little jobs and favors. "Oh Henry, do this" or "Oh Henry,
will you get me that?" Later that year (1921) "Oh Henry"
became the name of the new candy bar.

Oh Henry memories... This story is not of my own childhood memories
but the memories we are creating for our first-born son.
When our first-born son came along, we named him "Henry." Rather than
handing out cigars to announce our new addition, my husband handed out
Oh, Henry candy bars decorated with blue ribbon. We where the talk of
the hospital! The nurses were thrilled to receive a yummy snack. Our
doctor was particularly pleased considering his name is also "Henry!"
Each year as we plan Henry's birthday party we go on a search for Oh,
Henrys to give out as party favors. Oh, Henrys are difficult for us to
find so I am glad I found the "candy you ate as a kid" website. We
will be ordering Oh, Henry bars for many years to come! ~ Elizabeth
