"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here.I am 42 years old now but I hold a special memory in my mind from my much younger days. My dad, I call him my dad because truly "Any man can be a father but it takes a special man to be a dad", worked at Cape Kennedy in Florida as an electrician. Throughout his career, he worked on many rockets and satellites and eventually the Space Shuttles.
His job was a tedious one that took steady hands and steady nerves. He would wake at 5 am every morning and work until late in the afternoon. As a child, I remember how much I looked forward to dad's return from work. I would run into his arms and he would pick me up and give me a big hug then I would pretend to sneak into his pocket.Every day, I would unbutton that pocket to find a pack of plain M & M's and every single time, I was delighted. He would give me a peck on the forehead and say "For the apple of my eye" and I would run off, excited and ready to show my mom the treasure I found.
My dad passed away many years ago but that memory has left a smile in my heart and whenever I see a pack of plain M & M's, I can't help but remember how such a small thing, combined with a big heart, made me so happy. ~ Janice from Florida
