According to the Mentos website:
- 1932: Pierre van Melle has the idea for a peppermint flavored caramel candy
- 1950: Mentos production gets started in Rotterdam and starts to ship candies throughout Europe
- 1960: Mentos rolls are first available to consumers around the world
- 1973: New flavors of Mentos are introduced (including cinnamon, menthol and fruit flavors)
- 1976: First Mentos television commercial airs
