Zero Candy Bar memories...

Memories... When I was in 2nd
grade, we lived in Church Point, Louisiana. While waiting for the bus,
I noticed that one of my closest friends, a diabetic, was eating a
candy bar. I had never seen one like this before - It was white
chocolate covering this tan filling (which I now know is nougat). I
asked her why she was eating candy since it could be very bad for her.
Her response was "it's ok - the white means that it's safe for
diabetics). At first I totally believed her & was afraid to try it
since I didn't have diabetes. After talking to my mom I realized that
it wasn't a "safe" candy... just a normal one & I HAD to
try it. I ran right out to the store & bought one. I absolutely
fell in love with it. I had one every week as my treat with my
allowance.
We moved a year later up to New Jersey. I was
heart broken when I couldn't find Zero's like I could in Louisiana. I
would find one or two at random stores, but I haven't had one now for
at least 2 years. But I will always remember the first bite into that
sweet vanilla fudge topping & the caramel dripping down over the
nougat. ~ Tracy from New Jersey
When I was a little girl I used to
spend the summers with my grand-mother. We would always spend our days
working in the garden and talking about what I would grow up to be. All of
my dreams revolved around being an astronaut, doctor, or the President. She
was especially fond of my presidential aspirations. After we were done we
would go in, wash up and have a treat.
She would head for the fridge and pour us
a cold glass of milk and then get into the candy jar and hand me a delicious
Zero candy bar. I can still hear her say--honey, here's a zero for my little
hero. I miss her terribly, but I can always see her face when I enjoy my
favorite candy bar-the one and only Zero candy bar. ~ Jackie from Missouri
When I was a kid my parents didn't waste money on candy. In fact you could get in trouble just for having
bought any. I wasn't given an allowance so my only source of candy was to wait for Halloween or Easter or something. During summer it seemed the
hardest to hold out; so I'd look all over the house for somebody's loose change laying about. (On top of the dryer was always a sure bet.)
Then I'd ride my bike 4 miles to a local campground. They had a vending machine with 5 or 6 selections and one
of them was a Zero bar. I had never heard of it before but it sure was good. I got one every time. Today when I see a zero bar. I think of those
secret bike rides and that wonderful candy bar and what relief I felt enjoying it. ~ Dawn from Pennsylvania
