Zagnut memories...

In 1975 when I was a
freshman in high school, I would stay after school for sports or some clubs.
Because I left late, I would need to take public transportation home with my
friends. The bus I took would stop at the George Washington Bridge in Fort
Lee, New Jersey where my friends and I would get off to take a second bus
home. When
we would walk off the bus, there was a newspaper stand. The man who worked
there was an older man and he was blind. He also sold candy. I had bought my
first Zagnut candy bar at this stand. I remember having to tell the
newspaperman what candy bar I was buying. It only cost me ten cents. If my
memory is correct, I think I bought one every time I got off that bus at the
bridge. Great candy bar. Randy from Arizona
More memories... Recently, my father had a break-in at his house. He was milked
of all his childhood to adulthood possessions. My dad is a hard worker and has
always earned everything he has or at least "had". A couple weeks ago he visited
this website and was thrilled about all the candy he saw that he ate when he was
a child. He is from New Jersey and there were certain candy bars you could only
find there and not here in Arizona. His favorite was the Zagnut.
And through my dad's own bad luck, his
free bar of Zagnuts that he received from this very site was also ripped off.
I'm his seventeen year old daughter. And I love my dad so much and I really feel
he deserves something for all we have been through these past two weeks. I don't
know what I can do for my dad besides love him, so I thought I would give it a
shot and try and get something so small that meant so much to him back.

I was a young girl, we had a German Shepherd dog named Shadow. For all of his 14
years of life, all he ate was dog food with the occasional pan drippings that
went into his bowl. Shadow loved to go with us for rides in the car, and one day
while we were on our way to who remembers where, I opened a Zagnut bar. The
candy wasn't even out of the wrapper when POOF! - it disappeared, and sitting so
close to me that I could hardly breathe, was Shadow, licking his lips and
looking for more! We were all laughing so hard.
It became such an ordeal to EVER open a
Zagnut and eat it by yourself - the dog always knew when the wrapper was
opening, and there he'd be - it reached a point we couldn't even say the name,
and had to spell it out! But the funniest thing, is Shadow NEVER looked for
other kinds of cookies or candy - only Zagnut! I miss that dog. ~ Judy from New
Jersey <<<
