Teaberry Gum memories...

Teaberry Gum

My story began in Brooklyn, New York 1959. I was seven years old and sitting in the kitchen of my girl friend Madelyn's apartment. We were drawing with our John Nagye coloring set when I took a piece of Teaberry Gum and offered another piece to my friend.

My friend got up to get a glass of water from the sink behind me and all of sudden she started laughing. I asked her what was so funny and she said "I just put gum in your hair!". My hair at that time was in a long braid to my waist, the color of carrot juice. It was the pride and joy of my family.

When I found out what happened I started screaming and her mother ran in from the next room, and she told me I better head home. I ran down the hall to my grandmother's apartment, rang the doorbell hard until my grandmother opened the door. My grandmother asked me what the matter was, as I cried I turned around motioning at my long ponytail with gum in it.

Needless to say when my mom came home the ponytail had to be cut. Even though this is a sad story I have wonderful memories of the taste of the Teaberry Gum and would love to have the taste in my mouth again. As I have grown up, and now am 52 years old. I would like to share the gum with my family, thank you for allowing me to share my memories. ~ Pamela from Colorado

Growing up in a small town, we had a dime store downtown. Every Saturday, my brother and I waited impatiently for our grandfather to pick us up to go to town. He always gave each of us a quarter and we could get anything we wanted.

I always got at least one pack of Teaberry gum. I couldn't wait to unwrap that first piece and feel the flavor burst in my mouth. I remember holding my grandfather's hand, chewing my Teaberry gum, and walking down Main Street. Life was good. ~ Jeanie from Kentucky
