Snickers memories...

My grandmother is the epitome
of the post-depression era woman who makes meals out of nothing and
has four different uses for every household item or tool she owns.
Maybe that's what compelled her to split one Snickers bar between
four or five cousins whenever we went to visit.
Coming inside from playing in the woods
or the barn, we'd be so excited to see that "HUGE" (everything's big to a child!
Imagine if there'd been King sizes back then!) candy bar sliced into 8 or so
slices. We loved every crumb of it, usually washed down by a Coke in a tall
glass bottle.
Maybe it's the fact that you tend to
savor each meager morsel when you don't have an entire bar, or maybe it's just
the memory of visits to Grandma's, but to this day, I think it's the best way to
eat a Snickers. That way and eating all the chocolate off before eating the
rest. ~ Holly from Oklahoma
My father and I loved the ocean and we
would go almost every weekend to swim. He would buy snickers and put them in the
freezer till they were completely frozen. After a long day of swimming we would
both have a frozen snickers bar.
My father has passed on and every time I
eat a frozen snickers bar I not only remember eating the candy with him but the
salty air-how beautiful the ocean was, and the feeling of having been swimming &
having fun all day with my dad. It is a small but wonderful connection to my
childhood. ~ Kathi from Florida
