Pop Rocks memories...

Mikey, who ate the Pop Rocks and Coca Cola, is alive and well.

The first time I tried Pop Rocks candy was my most memorable. One of my friends introduced it to me and said that it was really good but if it blew up in my mouth that if I swallowed it I would explode as well.

Naturally, being a kid I believed every word and was very cautious. Placing the candy in my mouth I quickly realized that it was popping. I jumped into the air and began spitting the candy out of my mouth as thoroughly as I could.

I couldn't believe that my friends were laughing because I thought I was going to blow up, but then I realized that not only was I was I perfectly fine, but that I had spit candy all over the cute boy next door. ~ Samantha from Kentucky

I first tried it with my friend Liz. We were at the supermarket. My health teacher told our class not to eat pop rocks, so we HAD to try them. We went into the store and bought 3 packs each. As we were leaving the store stuffing our faces with our new favorite candy who walks right past us but our health teacher! He gave us a good talking to but to this day I still eat pop rocks candy. ~ Jenn from New Jersey

We had a class trip to go to a Broadway musical, and so everyone had to troop up the streets of New York in a bunch of ties, formal suits, and long formal dresses. Everyone was in the NBC souvenir store when I suddenly noticed a pack of pop rocks, and bought it along with a bottle of coke (I hadn't known about the supposed "death rumor" circulating around these two food items).

So when everyone was well and seated in the seats of the theater, I took a drink of the coke with the pop rocks. But then, I heard someone telling a joke on the seat next to me, and ended up coughing the concoction all over my dress (it narrowly missed the person's head that was sitting in front of me). Needless to say, that really WAS a death situation for me, and I've never taken pop rocks with soda again. ~ Nina from New York City

I was six the first time I tried pop rocks, my dad bought them for me at a gas station. I loved the sound it made and the taste was out of this world! I couldn't get enough Pop Rocks, even when we all heard the rumor about it killing kids, I still had to have them. When they disappeared I was sad and never found a replacement. When they made a come back I had kids of my own and now they like them too, I still have to buy them whenever I see them. ~ Jamie from Iowa
