Peanut Patty memories...

My dad had a thing for peanut patties. He used to buy the big ones and break them into pieces in a bowl. If you were really good he'd share a piece
with you. I never forgot that. When he was dying in the hospital I went to visit him one day with a peanut patty of my own. He wasn't expected to live
through this stay and depression had set in. I put a piece to his mouth just to taste it and he smiled and began remembering the bowl with the broken
pieces. He began to talk and laugh. His vitals improved and he made it home to us. It will always be special to me. ~ Rachel from Missouri
The first time I remember getting one of
these peanut patties is when I was 16 visiting my grandmother in San Antonio,
Texas. I am 65 now. With one exception, the only time I found these candies was
in Texas. I only visited Texas once in my life. The only time I got one was when
a Texas relative visited us here in Utah and brought some with them. I always
got in trouble because I ate more than my share.
Ten years ago a store in West Jordan,
Utah put them on sale ONCE and I bought two boxes of them. I have searched the
internet for this candy intermittently for quite a while now and on a hunch this
time I typed in Tom's peanut patty and this site came up. I've ordered a box of
them and can't wait to see if my family likes them. I had a recipe and made them
once, but lost the recipe. Thought I would never be able to taste a peanut patty
ever again! THANKS!!! ~ Irene from Utah
Although I have lived in Southern
California for most of my life, I was born in the small West Texas town of
Loraine. My favorite candy was "Tom's" Peanut Patties, and they probably cost
five cents for most of my childhood. Whenever we would go to go to Texas for our
family reunion (at Abilene's Cobb Park), my mother and I would buy peanut
patties and bring them back to San Diego with us.
Unfortunately, you can't find "Tom's"
snack items anymore, but I have found the patties on www.oldtimecandy.com.
Luckily, I discovered this website and ordered a box of peanut patties to share
with my mother. She really loved the patties and it brought back some happy
memories we were able to share before she passed away in 2004. Thanks for
offering the candies of the 50's for the "boomer" generation, and others as
well! ~ Diane from California
We used to go down to Killeen, Texas
every summer to visit my grandparents. My grandmother would always buy peanut
patties for my mom from the Fort Hood Commissary. She would buy as many as they
would sell and we'd drive back up to Wisconsin with them. The whole family loved
them! Our little poodle, Rebel, enjoyed them as much as we did!!
We were afraid
they were no longer made, and were ecstatic to find that oldtimecandy.com
carries them. Thanks for keeping those sweet memories alive!!!!! ~ Angi from
Virginia
