Necco Wafers memories...

My favorite candy as a kid was Necco Wafers. As a kid growing up in St. Jacob, Illinois and coming from a
family of 11 kids I was 3rd from the youngest and we were very poor. I use to help the farmer (who we rented our house from) bail hay. When I was
about 8 or 9 after he would pay me, I would ride my bike into town and buy the Necco Wafers. They lasted so much longer than other candy and candy
was a very rare thing. You could chew them, suck on them and they did not melt in the hot summer sun. ~ Jim from Illinois
Necco wafers always remind me of going to the downtown movie theater on a Saturday afternoon in the 1960's. I
always stood before the crowded refreshment counter, fighting for a position to study the candy assortment. It was a big decision to pay a whole
quarter for candy! Necco wafers gave me the best return for my money - individual wafers and multiple flavors that could be stretched out to last
through the movie. Just the smell of the candy powder of the wafer is still in my memory. ~ Janet from Tennessee
Many of your candies bring back fond and long forgotten memories. However Necco wafers stands out in my mind
because of the new school I went to in third grade. I loved the school but most of all I loved taking the trolley. My mother would pick me up and buy
me a package of Necco wafers before boarding the trolley.
The trolley disappeared soon after third grade, the school is no longer there, but the Necco wafers stayed.
Seeing the Necco wafers triggered this long forgotten memory. We moved after third grade and the trolley became a vehicle of the past, but I'm glad
Necco wafers are still around. ~ Lucy Ann from New Jersey
