Junior
Mints memories...

When I was a kid, both of my parents
worked during the day, so I was watched by my grandparents who lived down
the road. My story begins with me inadvertently discovering my Grandpa’s
candy stash, Junior Mints of course, and eating all of them. After that, he
began hiding them in various places around the house, but every time I came
over, I would find and eat them. One day, after getting especially messy
with them, I was on my way out of the room in which they were hidden, and I
ran right into my Grandpa! There was no hiding the fact that I had just
consumed his Junior Mints: I had chocolate all over my mouth and hands and I
smelled like mint.
Grandpa said nothing, but the next
time I worked up the courage to find the irresistible Junior Mints, I got
quite a surprise. One of the boxes had writing on it: “Junior Mints for my
Junior Mint.” I enjoyed that box of Junior Mints, but left the rest of
them. Every time after that, I could always count on finding a box just for
me.
Even today, when Grandpa finds out
that I will be visiting, he hides a box of Junior Mints somewhere around the
house with the same writing on it. Though its been many years and I’m all
grown up now, I’m still his “Junior Mint.” Jessica from

The Temple Theatre in Saginaw, Michigan,
showed old classic films in the 80s and 90s. There was an organ overture and an
intermission, and the best musicals, comedies, and dramas from the 30s to the
60s. Nearly every weekend, my sister and I begged to go as she loved old
musicals and comedies and I loved Humphrey Bogart and dramas.
When we arrived, my sister and I would
make a beeline for the candy counter where we would purchase Junior Mints for 50
cents. We would then run up to the balcony and try to secure a spot in the front
row, where we could clearly see the screen, the people below, and the organist.
We would open our boxes of Junior Mints and take just one out, and then dangle
our arms over the balcony while holding the Junior Mint between two fingers. We
would stay like that until my mother turned around and yelled, “Girls!” and then
we would sit back, giggling, and eat the candy during the organ overture.
We never actually dropped a Junior Mint
on the people below, but my mother always feared that we would. The theatre
doesn’t show those movies anymore and I’ve moved away, but whenever I eat Junior
Mints I remember two giggling little girls sitting in the balcony, enjoying
mints and music. ~ Jennifer from North Carolina
Junior Mints are amazing. What could be
better than chocolate and mint together? I loved them as a kid, and I still love
savoring them at movie theaters. But they taught me a life lesson when I was
very young - probably about 4 or 5.
I went to a local grocery store/gas
station with my parents, and as the cashier was checking them out, I grabbed a
box of Junior Mints. The cashier didn't see me, so I slipped out of the store
with the goods. When my parents noticed I had candy, they smacked my bottom and
made me go into the store, return the Junior Mints and apologize to the cashier.
At the time I was embarrassed and humiliated (as much as a 4-year-old can be),
but now I thank my parents for that. And I pay for all of my Junior Mints to
this day. ~ Traci from Texas
