Jujubes memories...

I remember when I was young and growing
up in a family with a grocery store. I still recall going with my dad to the
wholesaler to purchase merchandise for the store. My job was to pick a variety
of candies kids my age would like but I always chose the one I like especially
the Jujubes.
I love those because the shape and I
always find a way to make each piece last. When me and my dad arrive home I got
out of the car and my dad always knew what I was up to. He would say, Joe give
me those boxes and underneath my shirt onto the floor 8 or 10 boxes would fall
out. I would look at him and laugh but he never did. Little did he knew that Joe
had 3 more boxes hidden under the seat. Now that I'm grown I manage to sneak a
few boxes in my shopping cart without my wife finding out I said there for the
kids honey. Yeah right I would think. ~ Joel from Illinois
My parents both went to BYU (Brigham Young University) and that's where they met for the first time. One day
they went onto this bridge that connected the Wilkinson Student Center with the Law building and they had a box of Jujubes. They hung out up there and
threw Jujubes off of the bridge and watched them bounce off of passing cars. Then almost 20 years later I came and visited the very same bridge for
myself, and I also threw candies off of the bridge. Perhaps it will become a family tradition. ~ Ryan from California
Jujubes and my grandmother are forever linked in my childhood memories. When we would got to her house to visit
she would always bring out her covered glass candy dish filled with jujubes to give us a treat. When they were fresh, they were like fruit flavored
toffees. Sometimes we would eat them 2 at a time, combining flavors. My favorite combination was lemon and orange.
When they were not quite so fresh, as they sometimes were, we could suck on them for a while until they softened. They were still delicious and we
would get to enjoy the intense flavors a little longer. When they were hard, I liked the licorice ones best.... yum!
Thanks for a chance to remember my grandma, she has been gone a long time. I haven't had jujubes since before she dies, some 20 years ago. Think I
will buy a box! ~ Carolyn from California
