More memories... (Circa 1969) Ray and
I were brand newly weds, living in a cabin in Oroville, CA, very countryish.
I was 18, and my first time independent, ever. HAPPY!
Free as a bird to fly..........
So Ice Cubes are a counter treat, where you say, "give me a coupla those,
please," Very rich, not cold at all, but SMOOTH as SILK---melt in your
mouth--- absolutely seductively delectable.......
Also these are about 1 inch square, and 3/8 of an inch deep, wrapped in
pretty gold foil. This is important!
SO....
Ray and I step into the country grocer to do a bit of shopping, and we
notice they have Ice Cubes! We are both familiar with them, and that we LIKE
THEM.
So I say---"Let's get some of those!"
and Ray says---"Good idea....!"
and I say "how many should we get?"
and he says "What do you think?"
and I say "well they are not very expensive!"
and he says "well, we have plenty of money!"
And then we both look at each other and without another word we say to the
counter man....
How much is a WHOLE BOX????
MIND YOU---a WHOLE BOX is quite large! ----so you do the math!
And we laughed all the way home... and ALL the WHILE we ate them.
Of course, we learned there can be TOOO much of a good thing---but we were
VERY YOUNG. And it is a VERY GOOD memory.
And it is still a little bit like how we are together...
YES----we crack ourselves UP!
AND
I think I should ORDER a BOX of ICE CUBES... for Old Times sake!
It's about time after 37 years, I do believe! ~ Ethel and Ray from
California
More memories...
Ice cubes, I thought I'd never see them again until now. So many years ago I used to buy these by the tub full
just as advertised here. The way they would melt in your mouth almost made it feel sinful to eat them. One of the best memories and things I used to
do with these was melt them into a smooth silky chocolate and then dip pretzels into the chocolate. I put wax paper on cookie sheets and placed the
pretzels on it once they were dipped and covered. Then I placed the cookie sheets into the fridge for maybe 5 minutes or so and just like that the
chocolate was hardened to the pretzel and what a double treat that was. These ice cubes are great for melting as well as eating. Melt them over
boiling water and they turn to silk. Yummmm isn't it ironic I just couldn't wait for summer and now I can't wait for fall after seeing these! ~ Peggy
