Horlick's Malted Milk Tablets memories...
Horlick's malted milk tablets brings back many memories because I ate a handful every morning before going to school. It goes much deeper than that. My grandfather quit his job and started a shipping company and his first customer was Horlicks. Mr. Horlick came over to the U.S. from time to time and used to visit my grandfather's house in Montclair, N.J. When my mother was born and as was the custom in the Victorian days she was named after Mr. Horlick. Yes that's right her middle name was Horlick. As kids we could never understand why she was named after someone that she was not related to. Anyway, I was told that eating Horlick's was good for me. As they were sweet and I could hand them out to my friends on the street, I ate more than anyone probably should. However, My mother lived to 97 and I have always been in good health so who knows? ~ Gordon from Nevada More memories... My sister and I (both now in our mid-thirties) used to get a jar in our Christmas stockings, because my dad (who is now in his sixties) used to get one in his. This was a special gift for my dad as he and his three siblings were raised by his widowed mother and there wasn't a lot to go around. I would always eat my jar right away while my sister would hoard hers. We were so disappointed when my mom was unable to get them anymore. I have checked on-line through the years and am thrilled to find they are back! Kristen from Ohio More memories... I remember going to the drug store in the early 1950's and looking for those bottle of Horlick's Malted Milk Tablets; they were always my favorite, and everyone in the family knew that. Later, when I was sent to Vietnam in the late 1960's, a distant uncle of mine would send them to me on a regular basis and they always reminded me of home and my childhood. Years later I thought of them and thanks to the internet I was able to find them on this site. I savor each one and every time I eat one, the memories of my childhood and the less pleasant time in Vietnam come back to me.
