Hershey's Kisses memories...

As a child in the early 60's, I grew up way out in the boondocks on the edge of a small town in South
Carolina. On occasion (it felt rare, but who knows for certain) my Mom would let us go down to Crowley's, the little country grocery down
the street with a nickel. It didn't matter that it was our money, that we had earned it.
My Mom said that no child needed to take more than a nickel to Crowley's Store, and there was no arguing with
her, so a nickel it was. That was all right. A nickel was a lot of money to me then. Well, when we kids got there, we'd head straight to the candy
case. They had candy bars, but those cost the whole nickel, so I never bought them. Sometimes I bought 5 pieces of strictly "penny" candy. But, often
as not, I bought Hershey's Kisses.
Not only did I love the smooth rich taste (as I still do!), but I felt so proud a getting such a good bargain -
they were 2-for-a-penny, so for my nickel, I could get 10 whole pieces of candy! What a deal! ~ Elizabeth from California
