Gobstoppers memories...

When my sister and I were
little girls in the 1980's we loved the Willy Wonka and the
Chocolate Factory movie, so when we found out you could actually buy
Gobstoppers in the store we were so excited. We would just sit
happily sucking on them and then take them out of our mouths every
few minutes to see what color they turned.
We loved to make a game out of it to see
who's Gobstopper would change colors the "best and the fastest". By the time we
finished our game our tongues and mouths were multicolored and sore, but it was
all worth it. Who knew one candy could provide hours of entertainment! I love
thinking back to when something so simple could bring so much joy. ~ Rebecca

Unfortunately, they no longer make the
larger size gobstoppers, but that's ok, so long as they never stop making them!
Most people would not recall, but a long time ago in the 80's, Wonka came up
with a brilliant plan (brilliant for us Gobstopper lovers that is) to put a Buy
2, Get 1 free coupon on the back of their individual boxes.
Being the Gobstopper junkie that I was, I
stocked up on these "no expiration date" coupons and continued using them into
the 90's. I personally, made someone rich off the number of Gobstoppers that I
ate through this period of time. At one point, I had a desk drawer full of these
coupons. I guess you could say that I qualify as an official "Gobstopper
Junkie". ~ Mike from Ohio
I was in 7th grade. Junior high school.
Mr. Page was my English teacher. He was a bit of a "Scrooge". I told him exactly
that one day around Christmas time. Usually I was the quiet, shy student. He
surprised everyone in the class when he brought in a box of individually wrapped
gobstoppers. The big ones. "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" was one of my
favorite movies. It still is to this day. Mr. Page even gave me a nice Christmas
card that year. He showed his generosity like in the movie "A Christmas Carol".
Another one of my favorites. ~ Lisa from Michigan
