Chocolate Babies memories...

Chocolate Babies

My chocolate babies memory is from the late 50's. I grew up in a housing projects in Queens. Both of my parents worked and oftentimes when I came home from school there was always a shopping list for me.

At the end of the list mom always wrote in her large cursive hand: "Chocolate Babies" That was my reward for doing the grocery shopping. With the leftover change from the grocery store I'd run to Lipco's drugstore and grab a box of chocolate babies and eat them all before I walked the 1 block back to my building. What a great memory. ~ Leslie from California

More memories... My favorite memories of eating chocolate babies was in the 1960's. It was a rare treat to get to go to the indoor movies and I was allowed one box of the babies as a treat. I used to savor them and try hard to make them last through the entire movie. Never happened, but it was fun to try. ~ Shirley from Missouri

I remember growing up in Hartford, Connecticut in the early 1960's getting Chocolate babies at the Movie theatre every Saturday afternoon. Some of my friends liked to bite off the heads of the candy, and throw them in the theatre. Not me, I wanted to savor every last bite of that delicious chocolate !!!

My friend's Grandfather was a Sales Rep for a Candy Wholesaler, and every day after school we would all run over to Gary's House to see what his Grandfather had dropped off. I was lucky most of the time to find my Chocolate babies, waiting for me in his kitchen.

It is good to know that I can now order my favorites on-line... Ah, just remembering that chocolatey taste, brings back many good memories. ~ Ken from Florida

I am a product of the 50's. That being said, a box of chocolate babies was like having a box of gold! Halloween was the best holiday of all; dressing up, going out with a pillowcase, filling it up at least 3 times or more (because back then, you could go to houses within a mile radius with friends without worrying about razor blades in your apples), and bringing home and dumping out our treasures on the floor.

The chocolate babies were one of the top 5 treasures; I remember my brother would actually take his chocolate babies and sleep with them under his pillow! They were definitely the Cadillac of candy at that time! They were just the right amount of chewy and chocolate, and when you ate them, you felt like you were doing something naughty! ~ Ken from Massachusetts
