Charms memories...

Charms

When I was only ten or eleven years old my parents decided to take us kids on vacation to Florida. We would play on the beach, bury each other in the sand and make sand castles. As we would lay on the beach my mother would always reach into the picnic basket and give us kids charms assorted candies. We loved them. We would have sand castle building contests and the winner would get more charms. We would work so hard on our castles to win. I will always treasure my memories of that summer and the excitement of winning the most charms for the day. ~ Kevin from California

As the youngest of four children growing up in the early 60's, I was always at home with my mother while my father worked and my older siblings were out and about. My mother ordered groceries from the neighborhood store down the street and they would deliver later the same day. If I was good my mother would get me a package of Charms and it was always a treat to dig through the brown paper bags looking for the Charms. I liked Charms the best cause they wouldn't get dirty in your pocket cause they were wrapped in cellophane. If only my children could experience such simple pleasures. ~ Alan from Mississippi

When I was five, (1953) my father worked full time for the government, built houses part-time, had a farm and raised cattle. With five children, money was very tight. I think, as often as he could, he would bring a package of Charms to me.

It seems they were all cherry flavored or perhaps that was just my favorite. Sometimes I would get to dial the big black telephone, hear his kind voice and ask him if he was bringing home Charms. When he arrived it was the greatest delight and fondest memory. ~ Marcia from Washington

My favorite memory of Charms is when my Mother use to work for the Charms Factory in Belleville, NJ. I use to wait for her after work in the parking lot with my Father and she would always bring out a pack of Charms or Charms lollipops.

I remember looking at the silver paper with all the colors and think, WOW -- it was so pretty. Then I would unwrap the clear plastic and it was so good. My favorite was grape. The lollipops were good. They were also big! --unless I was small. Theresa from New Jersey

When I was in the eighth grade I played flag football. We had no after sports bus to take us home, so we walked home. We would stop in at a tiny Mom and Pop store on the way home (It is long since lost to modernization and urbanization).

I would buy a pack of grape Charms and enjoy them on the way home. They were full of flavor. That's a fond memory of that candy and the eighth grade. There were other candies, but Charms were my favorite, and grape especially. Grape doesn't seem to be popular in candy any more. ~ Patrick from California
