Charleston Chews memories...

One day I was at the local candy shop were a nice old man worked (I can't remember his name). I remember
that I bought a Charleston Chew and he gave me four. I asked him why and he said that it was the least thing he could do since I went there every
day. When I was on my way home to tell my mother she gave me more Charleston Chews I asked why and she said it was the least thing she could do.
When I asked my dad he told me that it was my birthday. ~ Matt from Wyoming
The best time in my life was when I lived just outside Chicago, and once a week my father would give my sisters
and I $1.00 each to spend. We would rush to the corner store to spend it! This store was a child's version of heaven. They seemed to have every kind
candy you could ever want.
My one favorite was a Charleston Chews! There wasn't a week that went by I didn't pick up one or two! Not only do the trips
to the store bring back sweet memories, but I can almost taste the candy again just thinking about it! ~ Denise from Georgia
Whenever I came home from college to visit my brother in high school, we would always go out late at night to
stores that were open and buy a Charleston Chew! Then we would sit in the care and savor it and discuss how delicious it was, always saving some so we
could take it home and freeze it.
The Charleston Chew became such a fixture of our relationship that my brother even brought a box of the mini
Charleston chews with him to his high school graduation! When one of the principals asked him what was in his pocket (they were trying to stop the
kids from bringing in beach balls) he said, "Oh, it's a box of Charleston Chews." and the principal said, "Oh, I love those, go ahead and bring them
in!" So my brother ate Charleston Chews all through his graduation ceremony! ~ Chelsea from Iowa
Being a rotund, only child, candy was
more or less a friend back then. I remember riding my bike after school (banana
seat and basket of course!) to a local candy store to get a Charleston Chew
every day. But, I wouldn't eat it right away... Oh, noooo!!!
I'd put it in the freezer and wait while
I did my homework. When I was done with the homework and thought the bar was
cold enough I'd take it out of the freezer and crack it against the kitchen
counter!!
Instead of having one long bar, I'd have
a hundred little pieces. The frozen nougat would melt in my mouth slowly and I'd
have it for my whole afternoon of cartoon watching! ~ Denise from Florida
