Bubble Gum Cigars memories...

When I was a little girl, my mother, father and I would take a drive down to Newport and have dinner at
this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant every once in a while. After we had finished eating I would beeline for the register and counter so I
could eye my favorite sweet; the candy cigars! I still remember the faces I would make at my father, pleading for one. (I don't think there were
many instances where he didn't cave.) He would ask the cashier for one -- "The pink one because you're a girl." -- and I would chew on it all the
way home.
I haven't been able to find them since those days so I was thrilled when I stumbled onto your site and saw the familiar shade of pink. It makes me
glad to know that they're still being manufactured. ~ Megan from California
Ahh... Bubble Gum Cigars. I remember these. These were always a mainstay at any birthday party we went to or
had growing up. I always loved the Cigars because they were big and would last longer than just your average bubble gum.
But, what I remember most was my brother's birthday party. We happened to be puppy sitting at that time and one of my brother's not-so-intelligent
friends tossed his chewed up wad of Bubble Gum Cigar (I believe it was blue) on the ground. That poor dog, unfortunately, must have liked the smell of
it and decided to roll in it. Needless to say, the dog ended up with wads of gum all over her coat. The owners were quite surprised when they came to
pick up their dog and found her with a nice haircut!
The only drawback to this was that after that, even though there were no more dogs around, she refused to get them for us so, when I could I'd sneak
to the corner store and stock up without her knowing. ~ Carrie from Michigan
My dad worked overtime a lot when I was a
kid in the 70's. I think he felt guilty, so he would bring home candy and comic
books all the time. One day, cigar bubble gum and a Hot Stuff comic was on the
table. I must have chewed the whole thing before bed. You know how kids are. I
didn't want to give up the gum, so I went to SLEEP with it. I HAD hair down to
my rear... not so in the morning. We had to cut out HUGE pieces to remove all
that gum...good times, good times. ~ Cheryl from New York
