Boston Bake Beans memories...

It was my very first day of school ever,
I was crying, and so scared to go, I didn't want to leave my parents and go off
to school, not even for a 1/2 day of school. I remember my dad telling me "be a
big girl and go to school, and when you come home, I will have a treat for you."
Of course at 5yrs old, I was excited, so I still cried, but went to school. When
I got home, my dad said here is a box of candy that I saved just for you. It was
a box of Boston baked beans (never had them before). I looked at him and said
"daddy you saved me a box of beans." He just laughed and said its candy. I said
why would someone put sugar on beans. He said try them you might like them.., my
dad was right. Everyday I came from school he had a box of Boston baked beans
waiting for me.
When I got older, I was able to go to the candy store by myself, and with my
allowance that I got, which was $1.00 and they were only 10 cents a box, spent
all my allowance on them. It was great, my dad even taught me a game to play
with them, although he didn't like me spending all my money on candy, he never
said I couldn't. ~ Cindy from Indiana
I loved Boston Baked Beans as a child! My parents would often take me and my brother to the mom and pop stores
so that we could spend a dollar or two on penny candy. Boston Baked Beans were almost always purchased for just a dime a box (those were the days)!
I used to pour the contents of the whole box into my mouth and dissolve the sugary sweet coating a little bit before crunching down on the remaining
coating and peanuts. No wonder I was at the dentist so much, lol!!
After finishing the candy, we would put the box in our mouths and use it as a whistle. I remember the "Just Say No To Drugs" message that would often
be printed on the inside of the box on the flap.
They still sell Boston Baked Beans here at a local dollar store. They are in a big plastic bag instead of the little cute boxes. It just isn't the
same. ~ Nikisha from Pennsylvania
This is the first sweet treat I remember sharing with my grandfather! I always looked forward to eating dinner
at his house. This was an every Saturday thing for me. I knew as soon as dinner was over that great little box was going to come out.
As I sat on his lap reading me a story, we shared the box of beans. To this day I can remember the smell and
taste of every bean. As I got older my grandfather would give me boxes of them for birthday and Christmas gifts. But we would still always just share
one box. I cant wait till the time I get the chance to do the same with my grandchild. I hope to always have this memory. And I hope to always have
this candy around to make me smile. ~ Jodi from Georgia
