Banana Splits memories...

Banana Splits

Certainly everyone's favorite candy memory involves Halloween. It is a candy bonanza and one I looked forward to almost as much as I looked forward to Christmas. One of our neighbors always gave banana splits away.

Even though the house was four blocks away I knew to start there and end there so I would get a double share of Banana splits. They had that sweet banana flavor and you could almost convince yourself that you were eating healthy candy except you knew Mom wouldn't say so. ~ Catherine from Georgia

Banana splits... those were a favorite of mine. I remember when pa and I would play catch outside for hours and all the while, we chewed and chewed on banana splits. They kept your mouth watering for another one, so long as you were a 'good girl' and earned you next sweet.

My family was made up of mostly boys so they didn't mess around with 'girly' candy. They always would buy Banana splits and see who could chew the most. It's such a fond and old memory of mine that I'm simply surprised that I even remember this.

Thank you for stocking in my old time favorites! You certainly have made my day! ~ Becca from Texas

The two different tours my husband spent in Vietnam during the 1970's, he was always requesting that we send him Banana Caramels. We would purchase a box at the local grocery store and try to get them ready to send off to him. However, having six young troops at home created a problem as they, too, liked their Dad's favorite candy.

Before the candy was sent over the ocean to Dad, we would all begin sampling them and lo, and, behold, every piece had been eaten. It made the children think they were closer to their Dad by eating his candy. We would then purchase another box and get it in the mail to the man of the house, with an explanation about how sorry we were for the hold-up, but we had eaten it all.

He would forgive us and request an extra box even though another box was in the mail to him. Then after his retirement from the military, suddenly we could no longer find the Banana Splits. It was truly a great surprise for him that I found the Banana Splits on this web site today. ~ Barbara from Oklahoma
