"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here.My Great Aunt Anna lived up the road from us. She was a widow for most of my life. I vaguely remember her husband, Uncle Bun. Among other treats indigenous to her house, Aunt Anna always had Bassett Allsorts in her candy dish. I was fascinated by their layered squares and round cushions of licorice goodness. She would pass the dish around and we were allowed to take two pieces.
It was torture trying to decide on the shape and color of my two pieces. Should I take the triple-decker white sandwich or the tube of licorice with the creamy white fondant inside? Or should I choose what I was sure was chocolate-flavored sandwich. To this day I can smell the furniture polish she used and hear her voice whenever I eat licorice Allsorts. ~ Kristie in PA
